Pinehurst Motel, Route One, Scarborough, Maine

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

On the back: “Tubs and showers…Electric radiant heat…Television and radios.”

The postcard doesn’t have a number listed on the back; if it did I would call. (When I do that I always feel like something Twilight Zone-ish is going to happen…)

Portland, Maine to get a new “Oldies” station!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I just read some great news!

870 & 1470 The Oldies Channel will launch on February 2, 2009 with a playlist focusing on songs from 1956 to 1969. In additional to NEWS CENTER’S morning and early evening newscasts, The Oldies Channel will also feature NBC news every hour and up to date weather reports twice an hour…

I love listening to oldies on my 50’s Philco radio:

I listen to “Sounds of Sinatra” on The Bay weekends from 10 a.m. - noon, but now I’ll have a steady station! I also listen to internet radio but it’s not the same sound as true a.m. broadcasting. I love the way it sounds!

Wonderbar Steak House, Biddeford, Maine

Monday, January 26th, 2009

From an old postcard with three views of “Wonderbar Steak House” in Biddeford. I don’t know if it’s still open.

“3 private banquet rooms- Seating 225. Air conditioned- Beautiful cocktail lounge. Main dining room (not shown) seating 250.

“Downtown low prices- Ample free parking.” Notice the glasses of tomato juice in the bowls?  June Cleaver also served it that way on Leave it to Beaver. It must have been a popular beverage serving suggestion.
